I Shall Call Him, Mini-Vader...

Imagine how weird the original Star Wars trilogy would've been if Vader had a clone one-eighth his size.

Two New TV Spots for the The Walking Dead Mid-Series Return

Two new television spots have popped up online for the mid-series return of The Walking Dead, which premiers Sunday, February 12th, 9/8c.

Each spot shows a ton of new footage and by the looks of it, the second half of season two will undoubtedly bring all the zombie action some fans have been asking for.

A description of the upcoming episode, entitled 'Nebraska', has also made it's way online:
After the barn incident, there is much conflict among both groups of survivors, Hershel wants Rick and his group to leave immediately and Shane accuses Rick to be just as delusional as Hershel saying that Hershel knew about Sophia the whole time and hid her from the group. Dale tells Andrea to be careful about her relationship with Shane since Dale knows what kind of person Shane is and now wants him gone from the group. He also reveals this to Lori, including the fate of Otis.
You can check out the TV spots below.  What do you think?  Are you getting excited for the second half of the series?  Let me know in the comments below.

Game of Thrones Season 2 Trailer

In case you haven't already seen it, HBO unveiled the trailer for season two of Game of Thrones prior to last night's series premier of Luck.

Not having read the books, I don't know what's to come, but I really hope "King" Joffrey is taken out this season by Arya...or just taken out period.

The second season of Game of Thrones begins April 1st.

Matthew Broderick to Become Ferris Bueller Again For Super Bowl Ad?

Check out the short clip above that teases Matthew Broderick apparently has Ferris Bueller...the ending is a dead give away.

Rumors circulating are that it will most likely be a Honda CR-V commercial that recreates, shot for shot, the Ferrari scenes from 1986′s Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Guess we'll find out what Ferris' next adventure is on February 5th during the Super Bowl.

PS: I dare you not to smile.

How Return of the Jedi Should Have Ended

If you don't know what How It Should Have Ended is, do yourself a favor and go to their site and watch all of their videos.  They are easily my favorite web series, pointing out all the plot holes and dumb logic found in many nerdy movies and games.

They've just uploaded their latest HISHE to YouTube, this time taking on Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Be sure to check out their other videos and subscribe to their YouTube channel for future videos.

World's Longest Running Experiment: 85 Years & Counting

Back in 1927, physics professor Thomas Parnell, set out to prove that brittle tar pitch actually behaves as a liquid when kept at room temperature.  Eighty-five years later, the experiment is still running.

As a professor at the University of Queensland in Australia, Parnell set up the experiment using a funnel, beaker and some melted tar pitch.  To prove that the tar pitch behaved as a vicious liquid, he melted some pitch and let it cool for three years before placing it within the funnel, which was placed over the beaker.

The first drop rolled out the funnel eight years after the initial set up.  The second came nine years later.  Sadly, the third drop didn't roll out until after Parnell's passing in 1948.  After his death, the experiment was placed in a closet until 1961, when Professor John Mainstone revived the experiment shortly after joining the University of Queensland.  Then in 1975, Mainstone successfully lobbied the university to put the experiment on display in a cabinet located in the foyer of the physics department.

Today, the experiment is on display 24 hours a day, via a dedicated webcam which can be seen here.  Mainstone expects the next drop to come down the pipeline sometime next year, but one can never tell due seasonal temperature changes effecting the rate of the pitch's flow.  The last drop that ran down the funnel back in 2000, but wasn't recorded on the webcam due to a poorly timed malfunction.

Parnell's experiment has been acclaimed as the world's longest running lab experiment.  Here's to another 85 years.

Assault Rifle with Chainsaw Bayonet is Made for Zombie Killin'

If you liked the Slingshot Zombiehammer I posted about earlier this month, you'll love the DoubleStar Zombie-X AK-47, aka, The assault rifle with a chainsaw.

Now while not as stealth as the Zombiehammer, the Zombie-X should help you get out of those jams when you find yourself surrounded by a swarm of ravenous, blood-thirsty corpses:
The DoubleStar Zombie-X AK-47 is a weapon specially customized to battle zombie hordes by attaching a battery-charged chainsaw to the end of the barrel, as well as a EOTech Zombie Stopper XPS2-Z Holographic Sight which puts a biohazard symbol on your target instead of the classic red dot. DoubleStar hasn't announced when or if this will go on sale, but its less fancy DSC Zombie Slayer predecessor sells for $1,249.99, so the Zombie-X is likely to be a bit pricier.
Be sure to check out a quick demo/rundown of the gun after the break.

First Look at LEGO Lord of the Rings

The above photo, brought to us by Kotaku, was taken this week at the U.K. Toy Fair.  It give us our first look at the new LEGO Lord of the Rings minifigs.

Be on the look out for the LOTR sets to hit toy stores this summer.

50 Years of Doctor Who Stories in 10 Minutes

So I know that jumping into Doctor Who can be a little daunting.  My suggestion would be to start with Series 1 of the 2005 revamp, starring Christopher Eccleston as the 9th Doctor, and then work your way on to David Tennant and Matt Smith as the 10th and 11th Doctors; most of which is readily on Netflix.

Once you become hooked, you can go back and hand pick which classic Who stories you want to watch featuring Doctors 1 through 7, beginning from 1963 through 1989 (the 8th Doctor only appears in one story from a 1996 TV movie that attempted to revamp the show for American audiences).  You can also find a handful of these on Netflix.

However, if you want to get a feel for the show and how it's progressed since the beginning, the YouTube channel Babelcolour has put together a video that includes a sample of every Doctor Who story over the last five decades.  It even includes clips from specially-filmed prequels, season trailers, spin-offs and BBC comedy specials.

Give it look and hopefully it sparks some interest in watching this fantastic show.  Allons-y!!

Oh, and bow ties are cool :)

Eddie Murphy as Winston Zeddemore

Most Ghostheads know that the character of Winston Zeddemore was originally to appear much earlier in Ghostbusters and was specifically written for Eddie Murphy.  However, Murphy turned down the role in order to do Beverly Hills Cop and the rest, as they say, is history.

Well, artist Todd Spence fired up the what-if section of his brain and created this great acrylic on canvas rendering of what totally would have been a publicity shot of a Murphy/Winston.

I'm personally thankful that Murphy dropped out and we got Ernie Hudson.  I think the Ghostbusters benefited from the "every-man" perspective that Hudson brought to the role.  It really grounded the rest of the team's quirky characterizations and no doubt Murphy would've been pretty over the top.

What do you guys think?  Do you think Eddie Murphy as Winston would've helped or hurt the movie?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Prime vs Prime

If you're really a nerd, you may have heard of Patrick Boivin, or at least seen some of his amazing stop motion work on YouTube.  Google's last three Nexus phones have been treated with his highly impressive ninja unboxing videos.

Well Boivin is back with a new interactive film which lets you decide who would win in a fight: classic Optimus Prime or new Optimus Prime.  Pick which Prime you want to win and then choose from two different fatalities for each; four endings possible.

Be sure to go through all four scenarios, as well as the rest of Boivin's awesome work.

Rated R Rugrats Trailer

Even though I identify more with the 80's, I primarily grew up in the 90's.  Part of growing up in the 90's meant watching great, classic Nickelodeon shows, like Rugrats.  Well, Funny or Die decided to crush one of my childhood memories with a vastly darker version of what I remember watching.

Watch the above trailer that basically shows Angelica trying to force Tommy, Chuckie Phil and Lil into silence about the murder of Grandpa.  Oh and did I mention that Phil has a drinking problem??

Harry Potter, Ten Years Later

Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, hosted this past weekend's Saturday Night Live.  As you may have guessed, they did a Potter sketch.

The above video shows Harry's life after Hogwarts...and well, it's kind of sad.  Watch as Harry is pretty much stuck in the past and continues to try to bank off his past accomplishments.

You gotta admit though, Harry did kind of peak early on.

Disable Google Search Plus Your World

Earlier this week Google announced Search Plus Your World, which personalizes your search results based on the connections and relationships that you develop using Google+.  Basically, content shared from your various circles will be given priority within the search results.  So far, the reaction towards this new product has been pretty mixed.

Now, in my own personal experience with the product, which has only been a few days, I can personally say that I don't find it very useful.  Just running a sample search for "star wars", half of my first page results were posts from this very blog.  Because of this, I've looked for a way to disable this new feature.

On a conference call yesterday with my Google rep (I work in paid search), I had asked if there was a way to opt out of Search Plus Your World since it is the new default.  Sadly, I didn't get an answer.  However, because I'm a nerd, I started playing around with my search settings and discovered a way that will allow you to set Google's old search results as the default.

It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's an Impaled Tractor Trailer Truck...New Man of Steel Set Photo

This photo was taken from the set of the upcoming Zack Snyder Superman film, Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavil.

The picture was taken by 'itsleroy' over at the SuperHeroHype Forums.  By the looks of the photo, I'm really excited for this movie since Superman is one of my favorite comic heroes.  I don't think anyone would disagree that the previous Superman movies have lacked any major action sequences, so this scene of destruction has got me excited.  I'm really looking forward to an all out brawl between Supes and Zod.

Here's hoping Snyder can deliver on the high action without sacrificing a great story.

Man of Steel is set fore release June 14, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix and Laurence Fishburne.

T-Mobile Will Get the iPhone...Eventually, Maybe

AllThingsD is reporting recent comments made by T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm, on things ranging from LTE networks as to why they are the only major carrier not carrying the iPhone.

Humm acknowledged that the lack of a TMo iPhone has to do with their use of the Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) spectrum band for its 3G network; something that the iPhone to-date, has not supported:
“The key reason we didn’t have the iPhone in the past is we are on different band than globally the market was,” Humm said. “That is something which will change over time. Chipsets are also evolving to be able to allow for more bands.”
CNET also reports a bit more on the topic from T-Mobile Chief Technology Officer, Neville Ray, who speculates that Apple's plan for the iPhone 5 may include AWS supported chipsets:

So I'm a little unsure who this is made for, but it looks like someone has developed a Skyrim mod that will turn all of the game's dragons into the Macho Man Randy Savage.
