Well, hold on to your shells Turtle fans...things are about to get interesting. According to The Province, Paramount Pictures is looking to begin principal photography late summer/early fall of this year in Vancouver, using motion-captured CGI Turtles (ala Rise of the Planet of the Apes).
Ninja Turtles is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) with it's screenplay written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol). Much to the chagrin of most TMNT fans, Michael Bay's production company, Platinum Dunes, will be producing the movie with some sort of involvement from Bay.
Back in March, Bay set the inter-webs on fire by hinting at a possible change to the Turtles origin, mentioning they would come from "an alien race". Later he responded to fans outrage by basically telling them to "chill".
UPDATE: Word has come out saying that Paramount has put a halt on production of the film and has pushed it's released date back to May 2014. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that the reason for the delay is the script, and that the studio has laid of all preproduction staff with the work stoppage being "indefinite".
Whatever the case, I'm a hesitant to see what is made with Bay pulling the strings. While I have been a fan of his Transformers films, I can see most of the criticisms many fans like to point out with the franchise. However, the Turtles happen to be a sacred part of my childhood (wasn't too into Transformers as a kid), so I'm hoping he doesn't completely screw the pooch on this one.
What do you guys think? Are you excited for a new Turtles movie? Are you expecting it to be a disaster with Bay at the helm?
