NERD ART: Tim Burton Meets Doctor Who

There's just something about Tim Burton's visual style and artwork that I just dig.  It's the fine line between dark/creepy and adorableness that just makes him intriguing.  So when I see his style translated over to one of my favorite franchises (*cough* Doctor Who *cough*), I get really excited.

deviantARTist, MichaelthePure, has created series of Doctor Who portraits in that Burton-esqe style that I oh-so love.  At the time that I first became aware of this series, Michael had only gotten through Doctor's 11 through 4, but has since finished Doctors 3, 2 and of course 1...he even managed to do John Hurt's "War Doctor" from the 50th anniversary special...how cool is that?!

You can check out larger versions of the 11th and 10th Doctor above, as well as the rest of the Doctors embedded below after the break.  You can also check out more of Michael's awesome artwork by heading over to his deviantART page here.  Oh and did I mention he's only 15?!  Crazy right?

First Teaser Trailer for Godzilla

Legendary Pictures released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming film, Godzilla.  We haven't seen the giant lizard-monster on our screens since 1999's Godzilla 2000...which I'm guessing was pretty forgettable since more people seem to remember 1998's bomb, Godzilla, starring Matthew Broderick.

The new Godzilla hits theaters May 16, 2014 and stars Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe.  You can check out the teaser trailer embedded below.

I know you don't get too see to much, but it seems like a pretty intense movie.  What do you think of this latest incarnation?  Excited?  Dreading it?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Pacific Rim Cosplay: Crimson Typhoon

A couple of years ago, I posted about an extremely cool Optimus Prime cosplay by artist Peter Kokis.  Well he's back with an even more impressive piece, this time taking on Pacific Rim's Crimson Typhoon.

The highly detailed suit weighs approximately 152 pounds and took Peter around 550 hours to build.  To check out more shots of his Jaeger in action, be sure to visit his page here.  And if you want to check out more of his brilliant looking robot cosplay or are interested in having Peter appear at an event, be sure to head on over to his site, BrooklynRobotWorks.com.

Trailer for Disney's Maleficent Now Online

Disney released their first teaser trailer for the upcoming villain film, Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie as the title character.

Maleficent, which is due out in theaters May 30th, 2014 (my birthday!), is "the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic 'Sleeping Beauty' and reveals the events that hardened Maleficent's heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora."

November 23rd can't get here fast enough!!

NES Style Jason Voorhees Cosplay

Hey all.  Sorry for the long gap between posts.  I'll save you the whole song and dance and just jump right into this one.

So what you're looking at above is probably one of the more cleverer cosplays I've seen in a very long time - Jason Voorhees as he appeared in the 1989 8-bit NES game, Friday the 13th. I'm not sure who the cosplayer is, but the photo was taken sometime last week at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles.

UPDATE:  After a little digging, the cosplayer's name is Robert Trippett.  Well done sir!

While this is might actually be the first time we've seen NES Jason in cosplay form, Trippett was obviously inspired by NECA's 2013 San Diego Comic Con exclusive of the same name. Unfortunately, because he was an exclusive to SDCC and you weren't there to pick him up, you'll have to scour eBay and likely end up paying some outrageous prices.  If interested however, NECA also has an 8-bit inspired Freddy Krueger out (available at online retailers) from the 1989 NES Nightmare on Elm Street and has plans to bring us an 8-bit inspired Robocop sometime next year.

Hopefully we will eventually see an 8-bit Jason vs Freddy pic sometime in the future :)

The 7 Worst Things About Wearing Glasses

Even though I wear contacts most of the time, I've had glasses since the 4th grade.  While I do like how they look on me, they are a pain in the ass.

For those of you not blessed enough to be visually challenged (notice the sarcasm), the folks over at BuzzFeedYellow put together a short video showing seven problems that only people with glasses will understand.

Enjoy.

First Trailer for RoboCop Remake Now Online

FINALLY!  Columbia Pictures and MGM have finally released the first trailer for their RoboCop remake.
In the film, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
I'm a huge fan of the 1987 original starring Peter Weller, along with its sequel.  The third one...not so much.  I've been looking forward to seeing some footage from the new remake and I gotta say, this trailer does not disappoint.  I'm actually really looking forward to the film now.  You can check out the trailer embedded below.

The film stars Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.  It hits theaters February 7th, 2014.

Leave your thoughts about the trailer in the comments below.

Not the One We Need, Nor the One We Deserve: Ben Affleck is Our New Batman...

Well, in case you live in a household without internet (which wouldn't make sense given you're reading this right now), but last night Warner Brothers officially announced that Ben Affleck will be starring opposite Henry Cavill in the yet to be titled Superman/Batman sequel to Man of Steel,  as none-other than Batman aka Bruce Wayne.........yes, that Ben Affleck.

Now I know I'm behind on posting some of the following, but I just wanted to give a little bit of background on the situation in case there is at least one person out there scratching their heads wondering what the heck is going on.

So last month at San Diego Comic Con, Warner Brothers announced that they were indeed moving forward with a sequel to Man of Steel and that it would team up/pit against Superman and Batman.  Obviously, for the most part, nerdgasms all around.

Naturally speculation began on who would be stepping into the cape and cowl.  Reports starting flooding the interwebs that Warner Brothers was looking for an older, more grizzled and experienced Batman...think early-to-mid 40s.  Soon names began to circulate, with the likes of Josh Brolin, Jim Caviezel, Jon Hamm, Gerard Bulter and even Ryan Gosling.  Rumors even started that WB was willing to pay Christian Bale $50 - $60 million to come back.  Well you can throw all of that out the window, because it appears we're stuck with Ben Affleck.

I'll admit, when I first heard that a Batman vs Superman movie was becoming a reality, I was pretty excited.  But the more I think about it, the more it feels rushed by WB.  Whether you loved or hated Man of Steel, it ultimately left us with a half completed Superman.  He hasn't become that beacon of hope he's meant to be yet and there's so much of Clark's story left to tell, that I feel a stand alone MoS sequel is really what the next step should be.  If you want to continue to establish a shared universe, ala Marvel, have a Bruce Wayne cameo.  But no, greedy WB will allow their biggest movie property to completely hijack a newly rebooted Superman franchise...and quite frankly, I don't think that's right.  If I was Henry Cavill, I'd be pissed.  But I digress.

Now, when I read the casting announcement last night, I was pissed.  I still am actually.  I have nothing against Affleck.  In fact, I actually really like him from movies like Hollywoodland, The Town and Argo.  However, he is no Batman/Bruce Wayne.  I've never seen him completely vanish into a character.  Any film I seen with him in it, all I see is Ben Affleck...usually doing a hokey Bostonian accent...and that's what I'm now expecting to see in this Batman vs Superman movie (minus the accent, I hope).  The whole time, I'll just be looking at screen thinking, "yup, that's Ben Affleck dressed as Batman...*facepalm*"  I can't help to think this is total stunt casting to get people to continue to talk/debate this film.  I mean, come on, hasn't anyone at WB seen Daredevil?

Anyway, regardless of my personal feelings, Ben Affleck is our new Batman and we'll all have to find a way to live with that.  Who knows, maybe he'll pull a Heath Ledger and completely blow us away.  Here's hoping at least...

If interested, you can check out the official press release after the break.

What do you think of the casting announcement?  Love it?  Hate it?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

First Look at Concept Art from New Animated Series, Star Wars Rebels

Shortly after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm back in October, it was announced that a new animated series was on its way, entitled Star Wars Rebels.  Little has been known about the show, until series producer Dave Filoni showed off some concept art at a Star Wars Celebration event held in Essen, Germany .

The concept art offers a glimpse at the visual style of the new series, along with a first look at the Ghost - the spaceship of the "yet-to-be-named" main character said to be a very central part of the show.   It was also mentioned that Rebels would take place between Episode III and Episode IV, "following the rebellion as it reforms to fight the Empire, which is intent on destroying the last of the Jedi Knights".

Back in May, Filoni said that the new series' visual style would be heavily influenced by the original trilogy's concept artist, Ralph McQuarrie.  Judging by this early preview, it seems to be holding true.

You can check out some of the shows concept art, including the Ghost below after the break.

Star Wars Rebels is expected to hit the small screen during the fall of 2014 on Disney XD.

What do you think of the this early first look?  Are you looking forward to the series?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Remembering 1990

While I've never been shy about my love of the 80s, I am more a product of the 90s.  I know the decade gets a bad rap for the cheesiness that came out of it, but you have to admit, there are some pretty great memories that came out of it.

"Remember 1990" was put together by YouTuber thepeterson and pretty much distills the year into 12 minutes of nostalgia joy...and surprisingly, it was a pretty awesome year.  I was a little young to remember some of what the video covers (I was six), but there's a LOT that just made me smile.

If you'd like to take a quick trip down memory lane, definitely give the video a watch.  You won't be sorry.

Also, be sure to check out thepeterson's YouTube channel for a number of other "Remember" videos.

Trailer for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Anchroman 2 has been one of my most highly anticipated films for this year (outside of Man of Steel...which I saw...and freaking loved), so the fact we finally have an actual trailer, has just about made my day.

I can't wait until Christmas to see this film, because not only does it bring back everyone's favorite news anchor, but it brings him into my favorite decade: the 80s.

Give the trailer a watch and as always, let me know what you think in the comments below.

Mini Stan Lee Crossplayer

I wanted to post this last week when it was still fresh, but unfortunately life got in the way #sadface.

Anyway, what we have here is probably one of my favorite cosplays to hit the web since Scruffy at last year's San Diego Comic Con.  Vincent Cracchiolo covered the Motor City Comic Con last week for Bleeding Cool and decided to bring his daughter Isabella along, but dressed as Stan "The Man" Lee.  What's even cooler, is that Isabella got to meet The Generalissimo himself for a quick picture (above).  Adorbs.

You can check out another pic of Isabella on the floor of the con after the break.

Teaser Trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins

I'm sure most of you gamers and Bat-fans know that WB Games announced that they would be producing a prequel to the Batman: Arkham game franchise, which will introduce a younger Batman who will encounter many of his greatest enemies for the first time.

Much to the dismay of the fandom, Rocksteady Studios was not going to be involved with the production of the game, and it was also announced that Kevin Conroy (the voice of Batman for many fans) would not be returning to voice Bruce Wayne/Batman.

While some have been wary of the project since the announcement, WB Games has released a ton of game images and concept art to help ease the concerns of the Arkham fans and today brings our first teaser trailer for the game.  While it doesn't show any actual game play footage, the trailer is pretty badass and has a very cinematic quality to it.

The game's full trailer will be released May 20th, so be on the look out for a future post (promise).  In the meantime, you can check out the teaser embedded below after the break.
Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline occurring several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Taking place before the rise of Gotham City's most dangerous villains and assassins, the game showcases a young, raw, unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, witness identities being formed and key relationships being forged.
Batman: Arkham Origins is expected to hit shelves October 25th.

What do you think of the teaser?  Does it make you excited for the game or wary that it won't live up to it's predecessors?

Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Custom Duck Hunt Pinball Machine

I'm always amazed by the technical prowess of hobbyist tinkers, inventors and crafters...especially when they can create mind-blowing contraptions such as this one-of-a-kind Duck Hunt pinball machine.

Created by Skit-B Pinball, this masterpiece was built during a break from their main project, a pinball adaptation of the sci-fi film, Predator.  Using a 1962 'Williams Valiant' table as it's base, they somehow managed marry this beauty up with a PC  to supply the sound effects and other retro visuals (I'm chalking it up to magic for the time being).  The end result is a pretty cool union of two old school gaming platforms.

You can view this baby is action by checking out the embedded video after the break.

FOX Sending Cease & Desist Orders to Makers of Jayne Cobb Hats

As if fellow Browncoats didn't already have enough hatred towards FOX, this news hits the net.

Over the last few weeks, FOX has been sending out cease and desist orders to purveyors of homemade Jayne Cobb Hats on sites like Etsy.  While it is true that the studio still owns the rights to Firefly, and with it Jayne's hat, why they're going after fans more than a decade later is a little odd.

Many are pointing to Ripple Junction who, not to long ago, obtained the rights to mass produce and sell the hat through popular nerd sites like ThinkGeek.  However, both companies have stated that they have had no involvement with the C&D notices.  ThinkGeek even went so far as posting the following statement on their site:
Our dear Browncoats,
We've heard the news that FOX, the licensors of Firefly merch, is sending out cease and desist notices to Etsy sellers who carry their own cunning hats.
We just wanted you to know that ThinkGeek has nothing to do with the C&D notices. The hat is licensed by a vendor with whom we have a relationship and while the hat is not an exclusive to ThinkGeek, we did have a hand in its development and answered the difficult questions like, "Are the earflaps long enough?" and "Is that man afraid of anything?" (Yes and no, respectively.)
Would the C&D have happened if we did not carry the hat on our site?  We're not sure; we'll leave that question to sharper legal minds than ours. We're here to carry the shiniest of goods from 'round the 'verse, even maybe makin' them ourselves. We just want y'all to know that while we might not always aim to misbehave, we'll always be sure to get you the best stuff this side of the Eavesdown Docks.
The way we see it, if people want to make their own, shiny. For those out there who can't knit to save their gorram lives, we can help.
While FOX is within their legal rights to put the kibosh on maker/sellers of the hat and other Firefly merchandise, it's extremely confusing and frustrating as to why they are suddenly showing interest in the property -- especially given the fact that they are the main contributor to the show's dimise.

One thing's for sure though: if you want a homemade hat, just like Jayne's mom made for him, you better hurry before it's too late.

Stop Motion Post-It Note Arcade

I love really well made stop motion, and this might actually be one of the best I've seen in quite awhile.  YouTuber Michael Birken spent 11 months, meticulously recreating two of his favorite arcade games using Post-It notes.
This stop motion tribute to my 2 favorite old school arcade games is based on actual recorded game footage. The recordings were printed out, one frame at a time, and transferred by hand to various walls around my office floor using thousands of Post-It Notes. The process consumed weekends and holidays for the past 11 months. Changing background scenery was masked out and replaced with 1 consistent frame throughout the animation, producing an eerie stillness amid the moving images on the walls.
The end result is really mind blowing and the amount of frames involved is incredibly impressive.  It took me awhile just to get a screen cap without a motion blur.

You can take a look at the video embedded below after the break.

Meet Peter Drunklage; Drunk Uncle's Brother

While a fan, I tend to miss most SNL broadcasts.  One recurring character that I've come to love over the last couple of years is Weekend Update correspondent, Drunk Uncle.

This past weekend saw the return of Drunk Uncle to discuss tax season.  As you can imagine, Drunk Uncle got off topic very quickly and was joined by his brother "Peter Drunklage".

David Tennant and Billie Piper Confirmed for Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special!

Fantastic news today Whovians!  With today being the debut of second half of Series 7 of Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed that David Tennant (The 10th Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) will be returning for the 50th anniversary special!  Awesome right?!

To get you even more excited for the 50th, it's also been revealed that John Hurt will be co-starring in the special.  I gotta say, I'm incredibly more excited knowing that the 50th anniversary special is going to be a multi-Doctor story.  I can't wait to see how 10 and 11 will interact and what they'll think of each other, especially since Tennant's Doctor really didn't want to go...

Now if they can only talk Eccleston into reprising his 9th Doctor...

Mickey is Back in a Brand New Disney Short

With the countless slew of new characters being churned out through Pixar and Disney animated films, I've often wondered why Walt's classic character haven't gotten much love in the past couple decades.  Fortunately, Disney seems to be remedying that by creating a series of brand new shorts featuring their crowned jewel, Mickey Mouse.

Croissant de Triomphe is the first in a series of retro-inspired animated shorts, featuring Mickey and the gang, where they'll show up everywhere from Santa Monica and New York, to Tokyo, Venice, and the Alps.

Produced and directed by Paul Rudish (Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls), Croissant features Mickey in a race across Paris in order to save Minnie from an angry cafe crowd.

I gotta say, I love the animation and character design.  You really get a 1930's vibe from their retro look and it's great to finally see some solid 2D animation coming from Disney...featuring Mickey Mouse no less.  Classic.

You can check out the new short embedded below after the break.  As always, let me know what you think in the comments below.

RUMOR: Christopher Nolan to Produce Justice League; Snyder to Direct; Bale to Return as Batman??

Well get out your salt shakers, because this is probably one of the biggest rumors to hit the net in quite a while.

According to 'El Mayimbe' over at Latino Review, Warner Brother's long delayed and troubled Justice League film will be produced by Christopher Nolan, directed by Zack Snyder, and will star both Henry Cavil and Christian Bale as Superman and Batman respectively.  And yes, Bale's Batman would be the same version seen throughout the Dark Knight trilogy.  Oh, and Nolan is reportedly going to take over development of all DCU films going forward!

Now, at this point there is nothing concrete to say whether or not any of this rumor is true.  From my understanding, Latino Review has had a very questionable track record with some of their reporting, and reading through their article on the story in question, not once was a source named...

...however, Jett over at BOF (Batman-On-Film), who has pretty close ties to WB insiders as far as Batman on film is concerned, doesn't really seem all that surprised by the news.  In fact, he's already gone ahead and written a post, addressing some reader emails asking whether or not he knew about this rumor.  His response?  "No comment".

While I know it's not much to go by, I've been following Jett's site even before Batman Begins started production and I would label him as a very reliable source when it comes to Batman on film and team Nolan's involvement.  After reading the rest of his post on the matter, it seems like a lot of story jives with what he's been hearing.

As exciting as the possibility of this story being true really is, there are some major implications that effect Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.  Good or bad, Bale's involvement with Justice League fundamentally changes the world that his Batman has inhabited until this point.  Nolan has mentioned countless times in the past, that his Batman exists in a world where there are no other superheros.  Also, let's not forget the whole Bruce being "dead" at the end of The Dark Knight Rises.

I personally really hope this rumor is true.  While I rated The Dark Knight Rises as my least favorite of his Bat-trilogy, he knows how to treat these characters and respect the source material (with some gleaming exceptions from TDKR).  Man of Steel is shaping up to be another big win for Warner Bros. and team Nolan, so having him involved with "godfathering" the rest of the DCU would undoubtedly be positive.  I also loved Bale's Batman...I just hope they fix his voice :)

What do you think about the possibility of this rumor?  Love it?  Hate it?  Have concerns?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Stay nerdy my friends.

First Promo Image for Doctor Who Series 7B

Last night the BBC released a new promo image for the first episode of Doctor Who, Series 7B, which will be entitled 'The Bells of St John'.  What's really neat about the promo image, other than the Doctor's new threads, are all of the hidden villains that will be featured in the second half of the season, including the revamp of a classic Who-monster, the Ice Warriors.

'The Bells of St John' will be the first "official" introduction to the Doctor's new companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.  I use "official" loosely, since we've already seen Coleman twice this season, but as different incarnations of what we can only guess will be the same character somehow.

Executive producer and head writer, Steven Moffat said:
"It's the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what's going on! We're up in the sky and under the sea! We're running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There's new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the centre of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed! If this wasn't already our most exciting year it would be anyway!"
I'm really excited for the second half of series 7 and can't wait to see what Moffat has in store for the 50th anniversary *cough*all 11 doctors please*cough*.

Doctor Who returns to BBC and BBC America on March 30th.

What do you think of the promo image?  Excited?  Meh?  Let me know in the comments below.

Google Working on Streaming Music Service; Music Industry Purportedly Happy

Earlier this week, rumors started to circulate that Google is currently working on developing a streaming subscription-based music service, similar to Spotify.  The service is said to be centered around paid subscriptions to YouTube music channels along with music only tracks.  Users would be able to either buy single tracks or have digital rights to a song/album, possibly through a pay-per-month type program.  Details are scarce, but sources are reporting that Google is aggressively working to beat Apple to market, which is also rumored to be creating a streaming service, targeting a release date sometime in Q3.

While Google initially had a hard time signing record labels to be apart of Google Music through Google Play, it appears that the music industry is highly interested in the potential of Google's offering.

Francis Keeling, Global Head of Digital Business at Universal Music Group, recently sat down for an interview with UK's Guardian, where he commented on his feelings towards Google's new venture:
We talk about for subscription services, the need to have a funnel. Google, with its hundreds of millions of users through search, YouTube with its more than 800 million users, arguably is the biggest funnel we could have. Clearly if we could get consumers into a legal funnel through that route and encourage them to subscription, that would have a very positive impact on the business.
However, there were some reservations that Keeling alluded to, mainly around pirating sites that continue to appear within Google's search results.
Like all search engines, there is a problem; we’re asking all search engines to prioritize legal services. We know that search engines are a primary route for consumers to be able to find music and hope all search engines will implement those changes.
I myself have somewhat mixed feelings.  While I think it's only natural for Google to move into this type of service offering, I feel that the market is already too crowded in terms of streaming music providers.  Services like Pandora, Grooveshark, Spotify and Rdio are free and already have a pretty extensive user base.  I personally already have paid subscriptions for Spotify Premium, SiriusXM and regularly pay for music from Google Play and Amazon.  The only way I can see Google really succeeding in this area is if there are some really unique features that Android can take advantage of.  Time will only tell.

What do you think about Google creating yet another streaming service?  Depending on the value it brings, would you be interested?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

As always, stay nerdy my friends.

First Look at New Spider-Man Suit for The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Last week, director Marc Webb gave a little tease of what we could expect as far as Spider-man's new costume would look like in next summer's The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  Well, a little over a week later, we now have our first look at Peter Parker's new duds.

As Webb previously promised late last year, the new costume features much larger (white lensed) eyes and a number of smaller changes to the suit's color and texture.  You can see that this version of Spidey's costume is much more inline with his current Ultimate incarnation and has drawn a few comparisons to Sam Rami's Spider-Man films.  You can click the image to the left for a much larger view.

Also, to get a better idea of the changes, I've done a quick mock up comparing The Amazing Spider-Man suit against the sequel's version.  You can check that out after the break.

What do you think about the new suit?  Love it or hate it?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Well I'm Out: Michael Bay Casts Megan Fox for Ninja Turtles

Well I hate to be one of "those fans", but what little hope Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot had, just went out the frickin' window.

If Bay's comment on his official site is anything to be taken at face value, then it looks as if Megan Fox has officially joined Ninja Turtles.

TMNT: we are bringing Megan Fox back into the family!

While the comment doesn't shed any light onto who she'll be portraying, there's a limited number of female characters she could ultimately play.  So more than likely it will be the Turtle's human ally, April O'Neil...which is just horrible casting in my opinion.

One thing that is a bit interesting from Bay's comment , which SuperHeroHype pointed out, is his use of "TMNT" (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the uninitiated).  Before the project was ultimately shelved due to script issues, Bay himself had indicated that the film would simply be titled Ninja Turtles.

With all the information that's come out about the film over the last year or so, I really hope it ends up falling apart.  It seems as if Bay really is going to completely alienate all Turtle fans, literally.  At least Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show is good.

What do you guys think?  Are you excited or horrified by the news?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

First Look at Josh Brolin in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

One subject I've stayed away from until now is the upcoming Sin City sequel, mostly because a majority news in the past revolved around rumor and speculation. But since things have become official, I've kind of dropped the ball.

Anyway, we have our first official look at the sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  Director Robert Rodriguez posted a slight tease on Twitter yesterday, revealing our first look at Josh Brolin as Dwight (who was originally played by Clive Owen in 2005's Sin City).

Grumpy Cat Cookies

"I had a cookie once.  I hated it."

The Grumpy Cat cookies are from Whipped Bakeshop, located in Philadelphia.

Also, on an unrelated note, I just wanted to make a quick post and leave a note regarding my lack of updates...again.  Again, I know there's been a TON nerdy news out lately, like the fact that J.J. Abrams will be directing Star Wars: Episode VII, that there are stand along, character specific films planned, ton of Star Trek, Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel stuff hitting the net, etc.  Things just have been very busy at work recently which has pulled me away from posting regularly during the day.

Again, I apologize for anyone that has truly enjoyed the blog and will be making a stronger effort to make time going forward.

Thanks for sticking with me and stay nerdy.

Behind The Scenes Trailer for Game of Thrones Season 3

With what still seems like an eternity for the third season of Game of Thrones to get here, we've been treated to a little behind the scenes action to help tide us over until late March.

The above video gives a little bit of a preview into what's been going on with production and offers a little preview of some of the newer characters we'll be getting in the third season.

I'm sure until the air data, we can expect a many number of previews to come.

Game of Thrones Season 3 will premier March 31st, at 9PM on HBO.

STAR WARS: The Empire Strikes Back Has a Hidden Mickey

In what one can only assume was either an honest mistake, a playful Easter Egg or insanely accurate foresight, there's a hidden Mickey smack-dab in the middle of Empire Strikes Back.

During the scene in which Luke confronts Vader for the first time on Bespin, a monitor in the background clearly displays what can hardly be mistaken for the silhouette of the famous mouse.

Whether intentional or not, it's certainly one hell of an Easter Egg given Disney's recent buyout of LucasFilm and the Star Wars franchise.

You can see a couple more screenshots below after the break.

Stay nerdy my friends.

How The Hobbit Should Have Ended

The folks at HISHE have just released their latest "How It Should Have Ended", this time taking on The Hobbit.

Seriously, why does Gandalf always insist on traveling by foot when they can all just fly on giant eagles?!  These epic adventures would be a lot easier...

TRON: Uprising Close to Being Cancelled

Somewhat disturbing news right now programs.  It looks like the Disney XD series, TRON: Uprising, is dangerously close to be cancelled.  Earlier this week, one of the show's storyboard artists - Eric Canete - tweeted that the show was "sadly ending", which spread like wildfire with numerous sites reporting that the show has been cancelled.  Canete has since responded to these reports, stating that his tweet was of his own opinion and not actually what was happening.

IGN's Eric Goldman was able to catch up with the show's producers, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour while promoting their other hit show, Once Upon a Time.  While there, Goldman was able to ask get some clarity around the show's current status from Kitsis:
"I don’t know what the future [of Tron: Uprising] is now.  I know at the present, I can say we need more viewers.  I’m so proud of that show and I love that show and anyone who watches it loves that show.  The problem is, not enough people are watching it.  And so I would love to sound the alarm, because I love the characters and the world and it’s really…It’s a shame that more people aren’t watching it, because I think they’re missing out."
The fact that the show isn't hitting a high number of viewers, isn't much of a surprise.  I honestly feel like Disney XD hasn't given the show a fair shot, as they've constantly moved the show's time slot.  Currently, the show is airing Sunday nights at 11PM CST...not to sure how any show is expected to survive with a slot like that, let along a cartoon series.

When asked to respond to the rumors of the show's cancellation, Kitsis stated, "At this point, I don’t believe its fate has been decided.  So if people keep watching, then there’s still a chance.  Please watch.  Tell your friends!"

I personally love the series and hope that more people can start watching.  Not only only is the show visually pleasing, but the storyline thus far has been incredibly engrossing for any fan of the TRON franchise.  Set within the time period before the events of TRON: Legacy, Uprising tells the story of a young program named Beck, who has been personally chosen by Tron himself to become the next Tron and help spark a revolution against Clu and his forces.  The show has just started to explore Tron's slow corruption into becoming the evil Rinzler (seen in TRON: Legacy), so it would really be unfortunate if the show was cancelled before being able to fully develop that storyline.

So to any fan of the TRON universe, I beg you to start watching the series.  I promise that you will not be disappointed.  Hopefully together we can all ensure that Tron Lives.
