New Trailer for The Avengers

Fresh off the heels of yesterday's new poster, a new trailer for The Avengers has just been released.

What do you think?  Are you excited for the movie?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

UPDATE:  Just realized that this is the UK version of the trailer, hence the title Avengers Assemble

Explanation of a Leap Year

Of course you knew all of this already right?  Happy birthday Leap babies.

Aykroyd Confirms, Bill Murray Will NOT Be in Ghostbusters 3

The amount of Ghostbusters 3 "news" can get a little tiring, especially because they are usually the same rumors that have been going on since 1999.  However, this saddening bit of news is a little different.  Bill Murray most definitely will not be returning...*le sigh*.

In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Dan Aykroyd shed a little more light on the actual status of Ghostbusters 3 and all but confirmed the bad news:
"I honestly don’t know. At this point it’s in suspended animation. The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn’t want to be involved. He’s got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He’s into this life and living it. I know we’d have a lot of fun [but] I can’t be mad at him. He’s a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn’t want to know."
Aykroyd also clarified some of the rumors that came out earlier this month about the possibility of replacing Murray's character of Peter Venkman, ala James Bond or Jack Ryan:
“We’re not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I’m the cheerleader, but I’m only one voice in the matter. It’s a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio."
I'm actually a little angry about the news.  I really want to see another Ghostbusters movie on the big screen, especially because I was too young to see the first two in theaters.  However, without question, Murray needs to be apart of it.  Its just so frustrating that he has this complete unwillingness to be apart of it.  In some interviews, its almost like Ghostbusters is this burden he has to carry around with him...even though it's pretty much what helped make him the superstar he is today.

While there may be a sliver of hope that he could change his mind based on a "perfect" script, this is a pretty sad day for all Ghostheads.

Apple Sends Out Invitations for March 7th iPad 3 Event

Numerous tech blogs are reporting today that Apple has started sending out media invitations for what is most likely going to be their iPad 3 event, scheduled for next Wednesday, March 7th.  The event, which is being held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM Pacific/1:00 PM Eastern.  The tagline on the invitation reads "We have something you really have to see. And touch." and sports an image of someone on an iPad.

In addition to announcing the iPad 3, Apple is also rumored to introduce an updated Apple TV and also a new high definition audio format with "adaptive streaming" for iCloud and iTunes.

I look forward to see what Apple has to announce, but for all intensive purposes, I'm not really excited about the third generation iPad.  From most of the rumors that I've seen circulating the net, it seems like we're just be getting a slightly upgraded version of the iPad 2.  I wouldn't be surprised if they announced an iPad 2S.

Are you excited about the iPad 3?  Will you be getting one?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Interactive Super Mario Coin Block Pendant Lamp

8BitLit over at Etsy has a pretty cool pendant lamp, made to resemble the coin blocks from Super Mario Brothers.  What makes it even cooler is that it's interactive.  Here is the description from their Etsy page:
This is a custom made touch sensitive lamp after the fashion of the Super Mario Brothers question mark blocks that appear throughout the series. It’s 6 inches by 6 inches by 6 inches, and made of laser-cut plexiglass and lit from inside by energy-efficient LEDs. The lamp is very light and suspended from an integrated 11-foot power cord, so it’s ready to be hung from a hook on your ceiling and plugged directly into an outlet. The internal power supply is 100v-240v compatible, so the lamp will work even abroad with just a simple plug adapter. If you want to use the lamp on a side table or by your bed, we offer a custom acrylic stand (sold separately).
To turn the lamp on and off, merely punch, ahem, I mean touch, the bottom of the cube and you’ll be rewarded with both light and the classic coin noise. Every eight times you toggle the light, you’ll get a 1-UP! It’s very bright in a dark room and still visible in daylight.
Each lamp will set you back a cool $74.99, but if you'd like to take a go at assembling it yourself, they offer a kit with everything you need (excluding soldering iron, solder, some hot glue and superglue) for $54.99.  You can also pick up a desk lamp stand for an additional $15.

You can check out a quick demo of the interactive features after the break.

Stay nerdy my friends.

Nerd Art: The Real Ghostbusters

DeviantARTist wRuzicka created this awesome piece of Ghostbusters art.  I really like how the characters are their incarnations from The Real Ghostbusters, but have an updated look.

The above artwork would be great for a new series, and the fact that there's a current Transformers, G.I. Joe, ThunderCats and upcoming Ninja Turtles series on TV right now, I think it's about time we get an updated Ghostbusters cartoon as well.

You can check out a larger version by clicking the picture above.

Playboy and Virgin Galactic Want a Playboy Club in Space

According to Fox "News" *cough cough*, Playboy and Virgin Galactic would like to open a futuristic men's club in...wait for it, wait for it...SPACE.

With Virgin Galactic's commercial space program launching later this year, Playboy is apparently very interested in opening an orbiting Playboy Club.
"As Virgin Galactic gets closer to becoming the world's first commercial space line, Playboy is eagerly pondering the creation of the ultimate intergalactic entertainment destination," Playboy editorial director Jimmy Jellinek said in a statement. "This heaven-in-the-heavens will exceed starry-eyed travelers' wildest dreams, and guests will truly experience a party that's out of this world."
Conceptual art by Thomas Tenery, which appears in Playboy's March issue, depicts a wheel-shaped space station complete with zero gravity dance floor, casino with "human roulette", five-star restaurant, and game room.  Oh and what Playboy club in space would be complete without genuine bunnies flying on jet packs serving you drinks?  There would also be private "orbital pleasure domes" allowing patrons to view Earth during their romantic bang sessions.
"The entire Kama Sutra will have to be reimagined according to the rules of zero-gravity physics," Playboy writers A.J. Baime and Jason Harper wrote.
Don't look to book a trip to Playboy Club Space anytime soon, as Virgin Galactic's ticket prices are a little on the steep side...$200,000 steep; oh and the fact that a space station of this magnitude and opulence would most likely cost over $500 billion dollars...yeah...

What do you think?  Awesome idea or completely ridiculous?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

In the meantime, you can check out some of the conceptual paintings after the break.

Netflix Does Not Plan to Support BlackBerry Users

Sorry BlackBerry users.  Turns out that Netflix won't be giving you any love in the near future.

Reuters is reporting that Netflix has no plans on supporting the BlackBerry Playbook or any other BlackBerry device for that matter.

After a lackluster debut a year ago, RIM has just released its PlayBook 2.0 OS for the BlackBerry Playbook.  The new OS come with an Android emulator pre-installed, allowing users to run Android apps on their device.  However, according to TechCrunch, it doesn't appear that the Android Netflix app works.

I personally feel that RIM needs to do something drastic in order to compete within the smartphone market.  Once a dominate force within the space, they've been steadily losing market share to iOS and Android at a rapid pace.  If something isn't done soon, BlackBerry may become a thing of the past.

SFX Reel From The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is one of my favorite shows on TV right now.  I love the realism that AMC is able to achieve when dealing with something as outlandish as a zombie-apocalypse.  Turns out, however, much of that realism is realized through CGI.

AMC has released the above video which shows a breakdown of some of the special effects the series utilizes.  As it turns out, SFX play a much larger role in producing the show and its pretty shocking to find out what is actually real and is not.

After viewing, what special effects are you most surprised by?  let me know what you think in the comments below.

eBayer Sells Safe for $123, Contained $26K Cash

James Labrecque, also known as jameslabrecque on eBay, recently sold an old, locked floor safe which he believed to be empty.  He promptly listed the safe on eBay with the following description:
WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET. NOTHING MORE AND NOTHING LESS.
HERE IS A MAJOR FLOOR OR IN GROUND SAFE. IT LOOKS LIKE TO BE A 7" DOOR MEASURED ACROSS. IT IS A COMBINATION LOCK UNIT... I DID NOT GET THE COMBINATION FOR THE UNIT .SO YOU WILL HAVE TO CONTACT THE MAJOR SAFE COMPANY TO GET THE COMBINATION OR FIND SOMEONE THAT CAN OPEN THE UNIT UP./
RETURNS: THERE ARE NO RETURNS. ALL MERCHANDISE SOLD AS IS. PLEASE DO NOT ASK US TO REFUND YOUR MONEY.
The winner of the auction paid $122.93 for the safe.  Once he received it and got it open, he discovered it contained $26,000 in cash.  Upon hearing the news, James promptly reached out to the buyer requesting half of the found cash.  Not surprisingly, the buyer declined, quoting James' own disclaimer back to him: "THERE ARE NO RETURNS. ALL MERCHANDISE SOLD AS IS. PLEASE DO NOT ASK US TO REFUND YOUR MONEY."

First Look of The Walking Dead Video Game

Telltale Games has release a few screen shots of their upcoming The Walking Dead game.  The stills give us our first look at what the game will look like.

They also announced a new nine-part online talk show called "Playing Dead," which will give insight into the game, along with some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks.

To find out more about the game, you can head over to Telltale's FAQ section for The Walking Dead here.  Be sure to check out the other two screenshot below by clicking on the thumbnails below.

What do you think of the look?  Are you excited about the game?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

1980s Korean Fried Chicken Commercial, Featuring RobCop

I have no clue what they are saying and have no clue what is going on.  All I know is that it solidifies the fact that I'm a nerd because the one thing I questioned was "Why is RoboCop so shiny?".

Artwork for Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

A couple weeks ago, photos of Playmates new Ninja Turtle's line popped up online from this year's Toy Fair.  Now we are getting a better look at Nickelodeon's new series thanks to the folks over at Toy Ark.

The new CGI-animated series will debut later this year.  I'm still a little undecided on the look of the show.  I'd really like to see the turtles in action before I can make a final judgement.  And why does Shredder have a Terminator eye going on?  I do, however like the fact that they've given a unique look to each turtle, unlike the classic show from the 80's where they all looked the same.

Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will air the first 26 episodes in 2012.  Until more details emerge, you can check out some more pics after the break and let me know what you think in the comments below.

Muppet Cupcakes

These pretty amazing looking cupcakes are made by UK bakery, Cupcake Occasions.  My favorites have to go to the Statler and Waldorf ones.

Battlestar Galactica Coasters

I'll admit, I have yet to watch Battlestar Galactica, and after watching this, I may hold off a little longer.  However, if you're a big fan like some of my friends, these coasters are for you.

Quantum Mechanix (QMx) is currently taking pre-orders on sets of four, that are to be released in Q2 2012.  "Based on the original phoenix plaque that hung in the Galactica's CIC", each coaster measures 4.56 inches in diameter and .50 inches high. The emblem is made up of seven layers of precision-cast polystone covered with scratch-resistant glass and each is hand assembled and hand painted.  The set will set you back a cool $39.95, but given the build quality, I think it's a fair price for die-hard fans.

If interested, you can place your pre-order here, and also be sure to check out some of their other collectibles from Doctor Who, Firefly, Stargate SG-1 and more.

RUMOR: Empire Reports Bill Murray Could Be Replaced in Ghostbusters 3??

Dan Aykroyd recently sat down with Empire to discuss a various number of things, but obviously the talk turned to the status of the long-in-developmentGhostbusters 3.

When asked on the status of the flim in general, Aykroyd responded that there is still more work to be done on the script and that it must be perfect before moving forward.

Responding to the December's rumor, that Murray sent back a shredded copy of the Ghostbusters 3 script with a note saying "No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts", Empire made it seem as if Aykroyd hinted that Bill Murray's Peter Venkman character, could be recast using another actor if Murray continues to hold out.
"Bill Murray is not capable of such behaviour. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work."
I personally don't see anywhere in Dan's comments that they would potentially recast Venkman in a new film, but who knows.  When it comes to Murray's feelings on Ghostbusters its a mixed bag.  One minute he says he'd be interested given the script and the other minute he wants no part.  However, I think recasting him would be a mistake of biblical proportions...like real wrath of god stuff.

What do you think?  Do you think this is a pretty BIG assumption on Empire's part?  Would you want a new Ghostbusters film without Murray?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Smallville Season 11 Announced...as a Comic Book?

Today, DC Entertainment announced that the universe that television show, Smallville, started will continue as a new comic book series.

Taking place directly after the events of the series finale, the new series will follow Clark, now officially known to the world as Superman, as well as the show's other characters, including Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.  The series is also expected to run independently from DC's current Superman titles.

I'm actually pretty exited for this new series, as I was a pretty big fan of the show and stuck with it all ten seasons.  I can't wait to see where the story goes and can't wait to see the artwork featuring the likenesses of Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum.

You can check out the official press release after the break.

RUMOR: Harrison Ford in Talks for Blade Runner Sequel

Last March, it was announced that Alcon Entertainment had acquired the rights to make prequels and sequels to 1982's Blade Runner.  Then this past August brought news that original director Ridley Scott had signed on to direct whatever the next film would be.

Speculation began on whether or not original star Harrison Ford would be involved.  Now, Twitch Film is reporting that Ford is currently in early talks about the new film.

However, Twitch was quick to point out that the talks are still in "very early stages".  It is quite possible that things may not work out, as previous statements have alluded to the fact that Scott would be the only Blade Runner alum returning.

Producer Andrew Kosove made that clear in an August interview which appeared in the LA Times:
"In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott but if you’re asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."
Since the announcement last March, many have been wondering what a new Blade Runner film would be: a sequel, prequel or reboot.  If Ford were to sign on, the film would most definitely be a sequel; unless of course it would be as a cameo, which I personally don't think Ford would do.

What do you think?  Would you be more willing to see a Blade Runner follow-up if it involved Ford?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

MTV Geek Gives First Look at Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

MTV Geek has given us the very first look at Nickelodeon's upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toy line that will again be produced by Playmate Toys.  The figures give a feel for how the CGI-animated series will look and feel.

The figures will vary in size, so it looks as if the four turtles won't be carbon copies of each other with different colored masks.  I actually really dig their looks and am looking forward to seeing how the new series turns out.

Be sure to check out close ups of each figure after the break, and also check out MTV Geek's page for images of other toys from the line, including deluxe power sound figures, a new Turtle Van and an insanely huge lair playset.

DC Comics Confirms WATCHMEN Prequel, BEFORE WATCHMEN

Yesterday, DC Entertainment officially announced BEFORE WATCHMEN, a prequel to 1986 highly acclaimed graphic novel, WATCHMEN.

BEFORE WATCHMEN will consist of seven all new interconnected stories that will serve as the background leading up to WATCHMEN.  As of now, no release dates have been announced, but publishing is said to begin this summer.  In the meantime DC has released the titles, creators, and series length for each prequel series:
- RORSCHACH (4 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: Lee Bermejo
- MINUTEMEN (6 issues) – Writer/Artist: Darwyn Cooke
- COMEDIAN (6 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: J.G. Jones
- DR. MANHATTAN (4 issues) – Writer: J. Michael Straczynski. Artist: Adam Hughes
- NITE OWL (4 issues) – Writer: J. Michael Straczynski. Artists: Andy and Joe Kubert
- OZYMANDIAS (6 issues) – Writer: Len Wein. Artist: Jae Lee
- SILK SPECTRE (4 issues) – Writer: Darwyn Cooke. Artist: Amanda Conner
Rumblings of the prequel have been going on for a while now.  This past Christmas, comics site Bleeding Cool posted concept art by J.G. Jones and Andy and Joe Kubert that featured The Comedian and Nite Owl from what was claimed to be a WATCHMEN prequel comic.  DC's legal team quickly had the artwork removed, which ultimately fueled the rumors that the project was in development.

Alan Moore, author of the original WATCHMEN, is notorious for hating any extension or adaptation of his work.  Unfortunately for some fans, original artist David Gibbons, does not share Moore's disdain:
“The original series of WATCHMEN is the complete story that Alan Moore and I wanted to tell.  However, I appreciate DC’s reasons for this initiative and the wish of the artists and writers involved to pay tribute to our work.  May these new additions have the success they desire,” said Dave Gibbons, WATCHMEN co-creator and original series artist."
Although some fans may be hungry for more WATCHMEN stories, I think a number of them are against the idea of expanding on the world Moore and Gibbons created.  I personally think DC should leave it alone.  The original novel did a fantastic job fleshing out the characters by making them extremely human (with the exception of Dr. Manhattan) and gave them enough depth that you don't really need a prequel.  Not everything needs to be a franchise.

What do you all think?  Do you think this is a good move on DC's part?  Are you wanting more WATCHMEN?  Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Make Your Own Futurama Slurm & Bachelor Chow

Feast of Fiction is back with some recipes that are just in time for your Super Bowl party (assuming of course you know what the Super Bowl is).

This week's Feast shows you how to make your very own Slurm and Bachelor Chow, as seen on Futurama.  Now if you've seen the episode 'Fry and the Slurm Factory', you needn't worry; the recipe doesn't involve the bodily secretions of a giant space slug.  The final product actually looks quite good.

As for Bachelor Chow, the recipe used is very reminiscent of Puppy Chow, but uses a slightly different cereal...and has a much cooler, pop-culture referenced name.

You can check out their other videos and subscribe for a new fictional recipe each week by visiting their YouTube channel here.
