Gamer Shells Out $16K for Virtual Video Game Sword

A Chinese man just put all other gamers to shame with a display of dedication that would mostly likely make your mother cry.

The gamer recently won a virtual sword for a mind-boggling $16,000 through an online auction to be used in the upcoming Age of Wulin, a martial arts MMO, which is not set to be released until spring of 2012 as a Chinese beta.  Snail Games, the developer behind of Age of Wulin, set up the online auction to include a number of exclusive virtual items that players could bid on.  While the sword was highest item sold, several other items went for a pretty penny, such as a sheath for a Lordly Spear (went for $2,500) and the Hook of Departure sheath (went for $1,600).

Age of Wulin is said to be set in medieval China and follows the folklore surrounding martial arts and the adventurers who practice it.  In the game, players will meet and interact online and roleplay in a new fantasy setting as they take on quests, which will be enhanced through various interactive community functions.

The English version of Age of Wulin is expected to be available as a closed beta shortly after the Chinese beta opens in Spring 2012.

For this guy's sake, I hope the game doesn't completely suck...

Stay nerdy my friends.
